Curriculum Information for the Week:
Literacy: Students will continue to work on their literary essays on claims and themes in the books they are reading or listening to...such as their read alouds… “Home of the Brave” and “Kensuke’s Kingdom.” Students will also continue to read articles online, learning about children around the world who are making a difference. They will pay attention particularly to how children solve problems.

Math: Subtracting fractions continues this week as we move into operations with unlike denominators. Students will develop conceptual understanding using manipulatives and models to show their thinking. In addition to the current unit, students are continuing to practice two and three digit multiplication and division from unit 1 to consolidate their learning.

Unit of Study:  We conducted a very successful ‘Social Change Maker’s Conference’ last Tues. and Wed. The students experienced 12 presenters and hopefully will be inspired to make changes in our own school and local community. It was great to see so many parents attending the conference this year. We hope you found our presenters engaging, informative and inspiring.

Student preparation this week for our three-way conferences on Mon. 9 and Tues. 10 Oct:
This week, students will be busy reflecting on their work, work habits, behavior and setting learning goals. Students may also be sharing some of their work and assessments with you at home prior to your conference.
